Frequently asked questions.
What should I expect when we meet?
During our sessions, we will have 50 minutes dedicated to your needs. Our time together belongs to you, and will be driven by your treatment goals and needs. During our first few interactions, we will spending time history gathering and completing an initial intake. During this visit, we will explore what brought you to therapy and work to determine how our time together can best meet your needs. In treatment, I am here to partner with you and help steer us in the direction of your goals with you being the ultimate director of treatment. I believe that you are the expert in your experiences and are the most equipped person to guide treatment. Sessions will look different for everyone, as everyone’s needs are different. Typically, our time together will be a combination of talk therapy, mindfulness or other self-regulation techniques, and other processing techniques. Our time together can shift to focus on new stressors or concerns that arise in your daily life, or focus more on past experiences and overall themes. This process is flexible and is guided by your needs. Typically, sessions will last for 50 minutes. Most folks start meeting every week for 50 minutes.
What are the benefits of telehealth?
Therapy via telehealth has been found to be just as effective as traditional, in person services. With the use of telehealth, you can also have access to a provider that is in the state of Ohio, but it not in your hometown. For some folks, this opens up the door to providers who have specialties that are not available near where they live. Being able to see your provider on your computer or phone, wherever you are allows for more flexibility, less travel time, and tends to fit easier into our busy lives. Some folks find that meeting via technology as opposed to in-person feels more comfortable.
What are the downsides of telehealth?
Any time we involve technology, we always run the risk for connection issues, including dropped sessions or other technical difficulties. While we will be able to see and hear each via a video platform, we may miss out on some of the nonverbal cues that we would otherwise be able to see in person. When we do meet, I will always join session from a private space to ensure that I am respecting your privacy needs as outlined by HIPPA. I will ask that when you join, you also do that from a space that allows you some privacy to freely speak and engage in session.
